Group meeting brief: June 10, 2014

With coming qualifying exam on the 13th, Felix did a practice run on presenting what he as accomplished so far. His work focuses on the recovery of network structure from the dynamics at its nodes. The main tool is transfer entropy calculation. This roughly represents the amount of information pass from one node to another. The effectiveness of these method are often assessed using receiver operating characteristic with simulated dynamics on known network structure. Felix approached the simulation aspect with a combination of MATLAB and C++ using MEX-File API. He also developed a CUDA approach for transfer entropy calculation on GPU with a 30-fold speed up.
